It received its name from a famous American mineral collector and explorer of the Utah deserts, Maynard Bixby, who quite literally wrote the book about Utah minerals, and was the first to discover the mineral.
This isometric crystal of Bixbyite is perched atop a crystal of Rhyolite-included Topaz. A stunning display specimen from very near the first claim where Bixbyite was originally discovered and documented. Here's an excellent opportunity to add a classic american mineral to your collection.
