1 1/2" x 1", 3.8cm x 2.5cm. From the rugged desert of Juab County, Utah, comes this rather uncommon mineral. Bixbyite is a Manganese Iron Oxide. It received its name from a famous American mineral collector and explorer of the Utah deserts, Maynard Bixby, who quite literally wrote the book about Utah minerals, and was the first to discover the mineral.
This pair of isometric crystals of Bixbyite shows textbook crystallization and they are perched atop a crystal of champagne-colored Topaz with Rhyolite inclusions. A stunning display specimen from very near the claim where Bixbyite was originally discovered and documented. Here's an excellent opportunity to add a classic american mineral to your collection.
