2 1/4" x 1 1/2", 5.7cm x 3.8cm. A spectacular specimen of Chalcanthite (hydrous Copper Sulfate) from recent diggings at the Planet Mine in Arizona. A bright electric blue crystal cluster, many of them curved, on matrix. A top-notch specimen!

The collector who decides to bring this specimen home will indeed delight in this purchase, and it will certainly be the topic of discussion when shown off. This specimen collected Feb 2013.

Mounted and labeled, ready for your display.

This is not 'smelter-chimney' recovery, or a lab-made mineral, as many Chalcanthite's on the market today are. Chalcanthite is a primary ore of Copper at the Planet Mine. The color has not been enhanced or treated in any way; this is how the mineral occurs naturally, and this is how the specimen came out of the ground.

Chalcanthite is quite fragile -- this specimen (as are all of my specimens) will be very well packaged for the delivery service, and insurance is included, just in case. Please take great care in unwrapping the specimen; do not pinch or tear at the wrapping - gently remove the padded 'ball' (I use fibre-fil and tissue to wrap and pad the specimens) and it will come 'undone' very nicely for you. Also, do not get Chalcanthite wet. It is very hydrophilic and can absorb water. If that happens, the specimen will crumble. Conversely, it can lose water from its lattice if kept too dry, or if heated, with the same result. Please feel free to ask any questions you may have.
