I love making large vases as it gives me the ability to explore ideas that simply don't work on smaller pottery.
This pot has one of my personal favorite glaze applications that I've recently done. To achieve the look, I applied black clay slip to the pot then bisque fired it. I then applied a shino-type glaze and used a variety of techniques to achieve texture on the glaze. Finally, iron oxide was applied. This resulted in a pot that has a TON of surface texture and interest. Portions of the pot appear metallic and smokey. It's a combination I'm in love with and I hope you are too. The interior of the pot is glazed with matte black.
