This distinctively spalted maple bowl was turned from a downed sugar maple tree in Bakersfield, Vermont. The beautiful dark lines of spalting, natural voids, and subtle undulation along the rim all give this bowl its own unique personality. This bowl was finish-turned while the wood was still green (unseasoned) and then allowed to dry into a slightly oval shape (6.25" x 6" diameter) with a uniquely curving rim.
This bowl is its own boss.
Width: 6 1/4" at it widest point
Height: 2 1/2"
This wooden bowl is perfect for storing small fruits, vegetables and herbs well as displaying and storing keepsakes. This bowl has several, dark natural voids in the wood which I left as they were - this lends beautiful natural character, but means the bowl is not suited for serving or holding liquids.
And it's going to make your tomatoes look sassy and fresh - even if they're from the grocery store in mid-January.
The bowl you see in these photos is the bowl you will receive. More photos are available upon request.
Kettler Woodworks' bowls are individually turned from forest-salvaged woods and each form is designed while it is on the lathe, with the shapes often suggested by the wood itself.
NATURAL, FOOD-SAFE FINISH: This maple wood bowl is finished with multiple coats of 100% pure tung oil, a completely natural, food-safe and durable oil that cures into a protective coat. The bowl was then given a topcoat of my beeswax and walnut oil paste. Care is as simple as wiping clean and towel drying. Periodically refreshing with a natural oil will keep this bowl beautiful and useful for years to come. Each bowl comes with a care instructions card with more details.
