My kindling serving and cutting boards are made from wood scraps discarded by production furniture shops in Northern Vermont. These boards were inspired by several large bags of beautiful walnut and cherry scraps being sold as "kindling" in a local St. Albans convenience store. It seemed a shame to let them burn - so I began making these serving/cutting/bread boards. All wood for these boards comes from repurposed "kindling" or other offcuts.
These boards are approximately 7"x11" and made of strips in either a contrasting combination of species or strips of a single species, depending on your preference. Wood choices include walnut, cherry, maple or jatoba (Brazilian cherry).
Please note that each board is unique and individually made - wood grain, color and width of each strip of wood varies. The photos above are meant to give some sense of possible variations. Please let me know if you have a preference for a particular species or combination of species.
A leather strap attached to the handle allows for easy storage and display. For both use and display, you can dedicate one side to cutting, leaving the other side unblemished for serving and show.
While the size of these boards is partially limited by the size of the upcycled material, larger sizes may be available upon inquiry. (See other cutting board listings.)
These boards are made to order. Please allow 1-2 weeks prior to shipping.
All boards are finished with a food-safe, ecological and durable mixture of walnut oil and beeswax. Hand wash with detergent and do not leave in standing water. Periodic seasoning with a food-safe, natural oil will keep these boards beautiful and useful for years to come. Each of my wood kitchen utensils comes with a care instructions card with more details.
