1" x 7/8", 2.5cm x 2.3cm. From a singular find in 2006, only days after the discovery of these specimens was made, the volcano reclaimed the site. This specimen shows the phenomena known as pseudomorphism, or 'false shape'. Originally, this specimen was formed as Magnetite, but over time, conditions changed and the Magnetite was slowly replaced by Hematite, molecule by molecule, until the entire specimen had been replaced by Hematite, yet the original crystal habit of the Magnetite remains unchanged.
Certainly a conversation specimen for your display! Estimates range from 1,100 to 1,800 total specimens that were recovered from this site, and only a very small fraction of those are ever available on the market. Here's a great opportunity to add a very uncommon specimen with a great story to your collection!
Specimen comes mounted and labeled, ready for your display.
